Materials Science

The mission of the Advanced Materials Science & Engineering Center (AMSEC) is to support interdisciplinary research and materials science education, and enhance regional industry competitiveness and innovation. AMSEC brings together faculty and students from Biology, Chemistry, Energy Studies, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations and synergistic solutions to complex, multifaceted problems involving materials.

We support the Material Science Minor program and offer training to foster the next generation of scientists and engineers in material science. We also provide various awards for students to travel and fund summer research.

Our state-of-the-art research facilities empower students and faculty to advance materials science while preparing a skilled workforce and fostering strong partnerships with industry to translate discovery into real-world impact.

AMSEC provides shared facilities that give faculty, students, and industrial partners access to state-of-the-art equipment  to advance materials science and hands-on training from expert technicians.
